Cherry-Lime Chia Squeeze
Having fresh fruit, veggies, and nuts on hand for quick snacks are great. But I also like to have a variety of fun things for the kids that we can take with us to sports, dance, or out and about. Enter the cherry-lime chia squeeze.
Around my house, I have three kids that eat. A lot. I’m talkin’ they just finish an entire satiating meal, dishes get done, and then here it comes. “I’m hungry!” Sigh. Such is the life of mom. 😉
P.s. No, I don’t have any boys. All girls. Four of them. But if I did have boys, I imagine them like this. Always hungry. Like my girls. And my man-cub, come to think of it.
Honestly, I think my kids love this cherry-lime chia squeeze snack so much because it comes in a container that is brightly colored and fun to use. I’m just glad to give them some hearty nutrition that helps fill their bellies. Before I had these cute pouches, I stored the chia goodness in a glass dish in the fridge and served in small cups.
Chia seeds are a powerhouse of nutrition.
Here’s an article from Harvard School of Public Health for you nerdy types. Hey – I’m one, too! “Let me explain. No, is too long. Let me sum up.” (Anyone know what that’s from??? Have I ever mentioned what a “Princess Bride” nut I am???) To sum it up …
- These tiny little seeds pack a punch of fiber, protein, and antioxidants.
- They have heart-healthy Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.
- Chia seeds are an excellent source of minerals, high in manganese, iron, and magnesium to name a few.
So many flavor combos possible
Some of our faves include: Tart Orange Mango, Strawberry Lemonade, Pina Colada, Mixed Berry. Can you see how the possibilities could be endless? Here’s what I add to each of these to help get your creative juices flowing. Ha! (see what I did there? snort snort)
- Tart Orange Mango – I add vitamin C powder to give us a boost during cold season. Frozen mangos and orange essential oil makes this a breeze.
- Strawberry Lemonade – frozen strawbs and about a quarter cup lemon juice make this easy peasy … you guessed it! Lemon squeezy! (*sigh* face-palm)
- Pina Colada – frozen pineapple and unsweetened shredded coconut, maybe even a little coconut milk or cream. Yum-O!
- Mixed Berry – simply frozen mixed berries from the store
Another fun ingredient I like to use is unsweetened, flavored sparkling water. You know, the various kinds out there: one has a French name, or maybe it’s Canadian; another has a polar bear logo; various grocery stores have their own in-house label; etc. I usually get what’s on sale or a flavor that sounds appealing. Or whatever Costco’s carrying.
Which one will you make?
What is your family’s favorite flavor combos? What will you come up with? I’d love to hear what you’re making. Let me know in the comments below if you make this recipe for cherry-lime chia squeeze. It inspires me and gives me something new to try. Because: it takes a village, people!
Product I use
Cherry-Lime Chia Squeeze Recipe
Ingredients You Need
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups frozen fruit, blended; or unsweetened fruit juice*
- ¼ cup lemon or lime juice – optional
- ¼ cup organic chia seeds
- sweetener of choice – optional (I use 2 tbl honey or stevia to taste
if needed)
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl or mason jar.
- Let sit in the refrigerator several hours or overnight so that the chia seeds can hydrate and create a natural gel.
- Pour into silicone pouches and serve! Store in the fridge.
Notes
*You can use straight juice and omit the water. For our family, I rarely buy juice. I prefer to use fruit. This way I can control the amount of natural sugar. I also love to use unsweetened, flavored sparkling water to kick up the flavors!

When you say two cups of frozen fruit blended, you mean to use the cup of water, or do you mean add enough liquid to blend the frozen fruit and then add a cup of water – are they two separate ingredients or one in the same since you would need liquid to blend the fruit?
