I really enjoy making my own personal and skin care products. It not only saves me a TON of money, but I know that I’m healthier for it!

Why Make Your Own Oil Face Wash??

Do you know what’s in those store-bought products? No? Well, let’s take a look.

Go ahead, read those ingredients on your facial products. What do you mean you can’t pronounce half of them, or even know what they are? You mean you’re not able to eat your creams, washes, or beauty products?

If we can’t eat it, why on earth are we putting it on the largest organ of our body that absorbs things directly into our system?

Sadly, there are over 1,500 harmful ingredients that cosmetic companies routinely use that are known to cause cancer, hormone imbalances, birth defects, and more!

Basic chemistry: like dissolves like. Enter oil cleansing method.

There’s even a whole website about it.

This simple recipe that I’ve been using going on 4+ years now cleans and moisturizes my skin. A frugal and healthy DIY that doesn’t bust my budget like those expensive products at the beauty counters.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Castor Oil are the common types of oils used for face wash, but if your skin is sensitive to castor oil, or you prefer to use another oil, Almond (for oily skin), Jojoba (for all skin types), and Avocado (for dry skin) are excellent options. Choose the recipe according to your skin type.

Basic Recipe

Dry Skin— 3:1 ratio olive oil to castor oil

Normal Skin— 1:1 ratio olive oil to castor oil

Oily Skin— 1:3 ratio olive oil to castor oil

This face wash alone works great. You can also add your favorite essential oils to give your skin some extra love. Some great options are Lavender and Frankincense, adding just a few drops of each for every 2 ounces of face wash.

I suggest making just a teaspoon or two at a time until you work out the best combination for your skin. Don’t be surprised if your skin goes through some adjusting during the first week. After all, it will be getting rid of more dirt than you know!

How To Use DIY Oil Face Wash

Splash some water onto your face to moisten a little. I find this helps to spread the oil wash out easier on my face. I know, I know … oil and water don’t mix. 😉

Simply puddle the oil into your hand and rub your fingertips through it. Spread all over your face, neck, and rub gently over your eyes if you need to remove any eye makeup.

Massage gently, working the oil into the pores of your face. With a clean, hot cloth, cover your face and let rest for several seconds, maybe 30 (ahhhhhhhh), and then gently wipe off the oil, dirt, and makeup from the day. Your skin will feel amazing!
