SIMPLE KNIT FARMHOUSE DISHCLOTH PATTERN

This knitting video tutorial will help you create a simple knit farmhouse-style dishcloth. It works up fast and easy, and makes beautiful gifts!
Course: DIY
Keyword: dishcloth, farmhouse style, handmade, knit
Author: Amy | Our Amyable Farmhouse
Cost: $3-$15

Materials

  • 1 skein Cotton yarn in color of choice – Any cotton yarn will do but it MUST be cotton so that it wipes, cleans, and washes well like it’s supposed to. I prefer the darker colors — #hidesstainswell 😉
  • Set of size 8 5.0 mm knitting needles.

Finished Size

  • Approximately 10 x 8 in., which can be adjusted to desired size in the pattern in the CO and Main Body sections.

Instructions

  • Cast on knit 36 sts. (I demonstrate this in my video. Also see video link above.) This is customizable: add/decrease stitches in increments of two to desired width.
  • Work 8 rows in garter st. Remember to slip the first st and purl the last st of every row.

1st Stockinette Accent

  • Work 6 rows in St st, ending with a WS, or purl row.

Main Body

  • Work in garter st until desired measurement of dishcloth is reached. For this cloth I worked about 8 inches from cast on.

2nd Stockinette Accent

  • As in the first accent, work 6 rows in St st, ending with a WS purl row.
  • Work 9 rows in garter st.
  • Bind off all sts and weave in ends.
  • Now, how satisfying does it feel to have made yourself a dishcloth? Once you’ve made a few, they work up fast. You’ll be knitting up a whole basket of them in no time, gifting them out left and right. Beam with pride, my friend, because handmade gifts are extra special. In fact, they’re my favorite kind!
